Cost Engineer

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Maintain material and labour details in the company Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system; Movex, and alter Bill of Materials (BOMs) accordingly
  • Check all new Items and BOM’s loaded onto the company MRP system are correct / update accordingly / cost roll and sign off
  • Check any altered BOMs to see if it has any implications on costs and selling prices
  • Ensure all items have material and labour costs associated with them and if not investigate
  • Calculate selling prices based on relevant costs
  • Maintain accurate price reports and investigate any price differences from previous report
  • Provide selling prices for Home Trade and Export markets, calculate specials based on information provided
  • Help maintain prices on the company’s various published pricelists (online and internal systems)
  • Check purchase prices and make alterations on company MRP system if necessary
  • Produce cost / selling price reports as and when requested
  • General office duties and support other cost office requirements as required

ADDITIONAL TASKS:

  • Provide pricing information as and when requested
  • Provide breakdown of costs when asked
  • Create estimated costs / selling prices based on drawings provided by the design office
  • Create BOMs and routings for components based on drawings provided by the design office
  • From time studies – update the company MRP system accordingly and also check part numbers similar and make changes accordingly
  • Check and update BOMs based on price recommendations from team leaders
  • Develop reports using the company’s reporting system - Qlikview
  • Recommend process improvements

Commissioning Engineer/Electricians - Posts in Redditch and Manchester

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide on-site assistance for, and commissioning of Thorlux Lighting controls systems.

MAIN TASKS:

  • Liaise with customers to advise on installation, connection and basic fault finding on all Thorlux Lighting control systems.
  • To arrange site visits with relevant parties from contractors to end users, in order to enable timely and effective commissioning of all control systems or site rectification work.
  • To keep active records on all projects to enable generation of commissioning certificates upon satisfactory completion of the commissioning process. To then ensure all relevant invoicing is carried out.
  • To report back on all issues relating to product defect/performance issues, and to actively advise on improvements.
  • To assist with testing of control system site and customer returns and relevant paperwork.
  • To carry out any other task delegated to you by the Site Services & Contracts Manager, the Site Services Team Leader or the Senior Commissioning Engineer.

You must hold a valid, and up to date, 17th Edition certificate and ideally possess a CSCS and ECS card.

The role based UK wide, so, a car will be provided. There will be the requirement for occasional over nights stops which are fully expensed.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a technical lighting sales role within the specification and end user market.
  • Be able to set pricing levels and negotiate orders to maximise profitability.
  • Thorough knowledge of LED technology and a basic understanding of lighting controls would be preferred.
  • Be able to demonstrate a stable career within lighting.
  • Good to excellent capabilities in using lighting software’s such as AGi, Dialux or Relux.
  • Experience with industrial end users will be advantageous but not essential.
  • Be able to demonstrate capability to understand broader sector requirements.
  • Ability to deliver technical presentations tailored to the customer needs.
  • Provide unique technical solutions within the sector.
  • Experience in electrical installation will be advantageous but not essential.
  • High degree of self-motivation, independence and willingness to deliver a project from concept to delivery including high levels of customer service.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are a must.

IT Support Apprentice

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Provide 1st line support to computer users within Thorlux, log / update helpdesk tickets & work closely with the IT team on infrastructure project work.

MAIN TASKS:

  • Provide first line support for all users.
  • Maintain a hardware inventory.
  • Maintain a professional presence to enhance the quality and reputation of both the department and the company.
  • Assist users in resolving any IT issues through guidance (telephone, email or in person).
  • Monitor any harmful attacks such as viruses & Spyware and take preventative steps where possible to minimise disruption.
  • Maintain adequate stock for printer consumables.
  • Generally undertake such duties deemed necessary by the IT Manager as and when appropriate.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • GCSE ICT / IT course.

Backend Web Developer

JOB TYPE: Permanent
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Junior to Mid-Level
JOB TITLE: Backend Web Developer

SALARY: 20-25k dependent on experience

THE ROLE

An excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to further their career in web development. You will be part of a small agile team working on the backend systems powering new and existing web projects for Thorlux and its sister companies within the F W Thorpe Plc Group.

The candidate must have:

  • Solid understanding of object oriented programming (MVC)
  • Experience using AJAX and REST APIs
  • Experience developing with PHP and MySQL or similar technologies

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Experience using MVC frameworks (e.g. Symfony)
  • Experience using Unix command line and Apache/Nginx
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Mercurial or Git.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML5 and CSS for synergy with front-end developers.

University degree or equivalent qualification is desirable.

This is a full time, permanent position and candidates will be office based in our headquarters in Redditch.

LGV Driver (Class 2)

PURPOSE OF JOB:

To deliver the Company’s products to our customers/clients premises or sites across the UK, so some overnight stops will be required, this will be a range of Days/Overnight, Multi-drops, Palletised and handball deliveries.

MAIN TASKS:

  • Ensure daily vehicle checks are carried out and any defects reported.
  • Operate the vehicle within the UK transport legislation.
  • Maintain fuel, expenses and journey records.
  • Ensure that at all times the customers’ requirements are met.
  • Comply with the Company’s rules, procedures and vehicle management system.
  • Ensure that health and safety and BS5750 procedures are adhered to.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full UK driving license
  • LGV Class 2 License
  • Driver’s CPC qualification
  • Excellent accuracy is required due to working with product codes

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous multiple driving experience
  • Knowledge of Company products
