Project Sales Engineer, UAE


Since the foundation through Frederick William Thorpe in 1936, the F.W. Thorpe PLC Lighting Group continues to develop, manufacture and deliver high quality luminaires and lighting solutions. Thorlux Lighting LLC based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is a new division of F.W. Thorpe PLC, created to strengthen our presence in the Middle East region. We are looking to strengthen our team with a dedicated employee in line with the following requirements:


  • To develop, implement and execute our marketing and sales strategy within the UAE market.

  • To achieve all issued annual sales targets and relevant KPIs.

  • To be able to support customers with basic lighting designs using Dialux/Relux/Autocad as and when required.

  • To ensure new products are fully introduced to all target customers.

  • To conduct relevant product training for our customer base.

  • To accurately maintain CRM project and customer database on a daily basis to ensure that the project/account statuses are always up to date.

  • To gain knowledge of customer requirements to feedback to the business.

  • To assist with the General Manager by having an active role in new product development within the business.

  • To liaise with the necessary all parties when local sales opportunities fall outside the UAE.

  • To liaise with various departments within the Company to ensure satisfactory customer support/backup.

  • To observe Health & Safety regulations and encourage others to do so.

  • To carry out any task delegated by the General Manager - UAE.


  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a technical and commercial sales role, heavily involved in lighting products.

  • Engineering degree or similar qualification is a preference.

  • Experience in electrical installation is a preference.

  • Thorough knowledge of LED technology and at least a basic understanding of lighting controls is a must.

  • High degree of self-motivation, independence and willingness to travel.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are a must.

  • Fluency in English is a must and Arabic language is a preference.

  • Must reside currently within the UAE. Abu Dhabi residents are a preference.

Sales Correspondent


To provide the link between the customer and the Company for prices, product information, availability, dispatch information and the taking of orders.


The role will cover a range of tasks, which will include:

  • To answer telephone calls, emails and faxes from customers requiring assistance with any of the above.

  • Provide the customer with quotations for the company's products.

  • To maintain project and customer records on the CRM system.

  • Write and or edit orders placed in a form suitable for processing.

  • Progress orders if requested to do so.

  • Liaise with other departments to obtain the information the customer requires.

  • Deal with customer returns and goods returns agreements.


You will need to be an outgoing, enthusiastic team player who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment with strong administration, telephone and customer service skills.


Lighting product knowledge

Technical Services Engineer


A brand new position has arisen for an experienced Technical Services Engineer who will be responsible for the overall co-ordination of all administrative functions. You will also offer Technical Electrical fault find and diagnostics for this extremely busy and friendly Engineering department.

Reporting to the Technical Service Manager, as Technical Services Engineer you will be responsible for liaising with the Laboratory, Design and Drawing Offices and will include involvement in the design and redesign of products. You will also be required to maintain the Technical Helpline and be a key part of the internal technical service operation. You will also have an Electrical/Electronic Engineering background (other electrical discipline’s may also be considered for example electrical installation).


  • Deal with product complaints and site rectification work, which may include occasional site visits.

  • Ensure the operation of goods return procedures.

  • Production of circuit diagrams, instruction leaflets and control of control gear spares lists.

  • Provide Electrical Technical Support.

  • Provide internal support for key accounts and distributors.

  • Effectively liaise with other departments within the organisation.

Trainee Sales Office Administrator


To provide administration services for Sales Office personnel to ensure customer contact both verbal and written is carried out speedily, accurately and professionally.


  • To operate the sales office switchboard and assist in operating the reception switchboard.

  • To check voice-mail messages received overnight on the Post Room telephone.

  • To issue quotations and up-date records on the CRM system.

  • To maintain the files of all correspondence handled by the Sales Office both current and historical.

  • To provide a speedy distribution of catalogues to customers and company representatives.

  • To distribute incoming and collate out going post and faxes.

  • To observe company Health and Safety regulations and encourage others to do so.

  • To ensure that equipment is properly used and maintained.

  • To carry out any task delegated by the Sales Office Manager or the Sales Correspondent Team Leader.


  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above

  • The ability to work accurately, prioritise and remain calm under pressure

  • The ability to communicate with people at all levels and have good telephone skills

  • Basic computer skills, especially with Word for Windows and Excel


  • Previous switchboard experience

  • Already worked in a Sales Office environment

Lighting Sales Trainee Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire


Designer, manufacturer and supplier of professional lighting systems since 1936. The Thorlux range of luminaires is designed, manufactured and distributed by Thorlux Lighting, a division of the F.W. Thorpe Plc group. Thorlux luminaires have been manufactured continuously since 1936, the year Frederick William Thorpe founded the company. The Company now operates from the Group’s modern 16,882 square metre self-contained factory in Redditch, Worcestershire. Thorlux is well known throughout the world and provides a comprehensive range of professional lighting and control systems for architectural, commercial, floodlighting, industrial, hazardous area and tunnel applications.


Reporting to the Area Manager, the role will entail learning about the industry, company and sales function within the UK salesforce.This will lead to a role as a sales person within Area 06 (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire)


  • To learn about lighting engineering and design and be able to design using lighting software

  • To assist the Area Manager in lighting design,quotations,project management

  • Execute the sales and marketing plan with the targeted customers (end users, consultants and contractors)

  • Develop business opportunities by selling the company’s lighting products, designing lighting schemes and providing quotations using the CRM system.

  • Update and maintain accurate customer and project details within the CRM system.

  • Plan and travel efficiently and in a timely manner visiting the target customer base

  • To achieve sales targets and KPIs

  • To ensure new products are successfully introduced to target customers

  • To gain knowledge of customer requirements and feedback to the business

  • To carry out any task directed by the Area Manager


  • Minimum of 5 GCSE at Grade C or above including Maths and English

  • Clean and full driving licence

  • Accurate and efficient IT skills in excel,word,outlook

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels within an organisation

  • Ability to prioritise and work accurately and calmly under pressure.

  • Tenacity, ambition, drive, self-motivation, independence and willing to travel

  • Aptitude and attitude to learn technical detail about lighting


  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a technical and commercial sales role in a related industry

  • Educational qualifications at or above A level preferably of a technical nature

  • Experience of electrical installation

  • Currently lives within 20 miles radius of Aylesbury
